Today's busy lifestyle leaves us little time for the joy of gardening but most of us would
like a lovely garden where we can relax at the weekends and enjoy the beauty of nature.
Okay, so how do we manage this with the few precious hours that we might have
free?
Well, first we need to design our garden so that it is less time consuming, less
maintenance.
Choosing the right plants, the right garden spaces, and employing the right techniques in
taking care of them will turn your gardening adventure into a gardening delight.
A high-maintenance garden means wasted hours hedge clipping, mowing lawns, pulling weeds or fertilizing -
all consuming your precious time.
Start by taking a stroll around your property and make note of how much time you take to tend
to various areas. Try drawing a sketch of how you would like to change certain features, especially the parts you hate doing. How can you
change this? What could you put there that would be low maintenance?
If you think your yard needs more trees, shrubs, flowers or even a veggie garden, the first
thing to take into consideration is your Climate Zone. Low maintenance means plants that are suited to your climate, type of soil, rainfall, full
sun, shade, sloping grounds and other conditions in which you are planning to grow them.
