Back Pain
We all suffer from some form of back pain at
some point in our lifetime and Lower back pain is probably
the worst.
The Following Are just a few General Causes of Lower Back Pain
Lifting something and straining the muscles in
your lower back. Slipping or
Falling
A strong sneeze that jerks your
body sharply can also be a cause lower back pain.
These types of back injuries are normally treated with
anti-inflammatory drugs and some simple
exercises, like walking, to relieve the pain.
If the pain is more severe when you bend over or try to lift
something or if the pain remains in your lower back, not traveling
anywhere, you may be suffering from muscle spasms, a
pulled muscle or compression of a
nerve.
Treatment requires anti-inflammatory drugs and bed rest for a
couple of days also regular heat pads or hot water bottles.
After a couple of days your doctor may suggest some gentle
exercises to strengthen your back muscles so this does not happen
again.
Pregnancy is
another cause of lower back pain especially into the
third trimester. As
long as it's only back pain a mild heat treatment should help. If
it gets worse or you have a fever or any bleeding see your
doctor immediately.
Severe lower back pain may be caused from a
herniated disc.
Any Pain that radiates from your lower spine down into your
knee, ankle or simply down your leg are signs that should be
reported to your doctor. But, if you have sudden weakness in
your legs, or you lose bowel or bladder control, which are
also signs of a herniated disc, you should go
straight to the nearest emergency unit of a
hospital.
The most significant cause of lower back pain is
Structural Imbalance/Postural
imbalance causing nerve compression or entrapment
If your body stature is 'off' alignment so much so that your
head is not centered over your shoulders, hips and feet, then
the core muscles have to constantly make up for this imbalance to
keep the body erect. A good example of this is Children and
heavy school bags, whether carried on the back or arms, the weight
is throwing the body stature out of balance
Pain situated in the lower back can also be a sign of
something wrong that is not related to your back. If you are experiencing
back pain combined with blood in your urine or a
burning when you urinate then this could relate to kidney
infection or kidney stones. These symptoms require a trip to the
doctor.
Arthritis can also
cause lower back pain, this may include stiffness when
you first get out of bed in the morning. There can also be swelling
of the joints. You can treat yourself by taking an
anti-inflammatory or over the counter pain relievers. A treatment
using heating pads or a hot water bottle will also be
useful. Unless the
pain persists in a way that you feel unable to treat there is no
need to see your doctor.
